This morning Ken and I went to have tea with our friend, Enid, who was with me when I took that spill in Mexico! In recent years the iconic Bluenose hasn't been sailing, so I was surprised (and concerned) to see her in nearby Mahone Bay at low tide. "No worries", I was told, "That's as far as she could come into the bay, and she was there as an attraction for the Home & Garden tour."
While I was sorry I couldn't make the tour this year, I did like getting a morning photo of the Lunenburg-built sailing ship. Given the flat colouration and light sprinkles, I decided it was a good time to go with B&W. We had a nice visit with Enid & I gave her the book I made of our trip to Mexico (complete with dramatic ending!)
On the way home we stopped at a yard sale and I got some really cool items I plan to use sometime as photo props. One, especially, was a very very old bowl with foxing and a deep crack (though it had never completely broken). At 25 cents I found it irresistible. Ken thought I was nuts to "bring clutter into the house", but I know YOU understand... (You DO, don't you?)
Louise, I really like the composition of this shot and your choice to process it in black & white or is this considered sepia? Anyway, it is superb. Very nice!
@chard Glad you saw that Richard... It has a very interesting history. Sometime I'll have to share more with you about "the local scuttlebutt"! Sue & Den are now in the know :)
25 cents for a photo prop! well, i picture you drove a hard bargain, my sweet lady! :-) i'm getting rid of some of my props, even though murphy's law says once it's gone, i'll be needing at the instant! but i had to, i have more that i just acquired! ken, it's not nuts. it's called 'hedging' :-)
really lovely Louise. love the reflection. i've heard that if you have more than one of something, it's called a "collection" not clutter. so technically you're a collector of props right? lol
Oh, I definitely understand about the 'treasure' you found at the antique store. I look forward to seeing it as a part of a still life in your project. Beautiful sailing vessel you've photographed here. It's stellar in B&W.
@thirdjoe@jamibann@gilbertwood@texastrails@lyndemc@kelly2 Thank you all! I went with B&W since it's a black hulled ship on slate gray water of a dreary morning...not much colo(u)r to scuttle, so thought to just follow through and dump what little was there!
Wow. A BIG FAV. A beautiful capture of my most beautiful ship ever. Great old fashion processing and a nice framing. .
But is n`t this not the Bluenose 2 ?
I nearly buy all my vases at those sales. ( If I find one)
@pyrrhula Ferry, you are absolutely correct! It IS the Bluenose 2 as the first one sunk many years ago. Around here, everyone just calls it Bluenose as we know it's an abbreviation. It delights me to see you express again your love for that sailing ship! I will be sending you something as soon as I receive it...don't be concerned about exchanges...I just think you "need" this :) Actually, I haven't seen it myself yet ...
@linah How good it is to hear from you Linda! I've been in over my head with wonderful friends and family, I won't have time to assess my own life until August! That day, we did take the time to visit a friend in MB and I was surprised to see the Bluenose out there. I'd kill to see her with the sails up! Now THAT would be a picture! If you're in the area, PLEASE give me a call! Looking forward to seeing you again!
@Weezilou From the first pic. I saw of her I was lost and in love. Beside the looks I like the history of the developing of this kind of ship. You make me curious . And do n`t worry about exchanges. I only do that when I like to do it.
First I totally understand the treasure for 25 cents. Now to this great photo, how fun to have this beautiful boat in a bay that you can photograph. Love this shot in b/w. Looks like it should be a postcard.
