As I sat by the window where the birds were eating just outside, I saw an ominous streak and birds flying up everywhere! The Sharp Shinned Hawk is back!
He shows up at this time of year, and, as the back yard shelters my birds and animals, it's quite to his liking as well as the foliage is dense and the birds are plentiful.
He spared me a gruesome sight, and sat where I could photograph him through the window, He 's quite remarkable-looking ... and powerful ...
...and he has blood all over his chest feathers...
He is definitely remarkable-looking and this is a fabulous capture. I wasn't familiar with this hawk so I looked him up after viewing your photo. Unfortunately, your backyard does sound like the perfect hunting ground for this hawk. :-( At least he gave you the opportunity to get an excellent shot. :-)
This just proves to me what an attraction your garden is to all the wildlife of the area! A stunning capture - so pleased he posed for you! What a beauty he is -,even with the blood on his chest! Lovely to see him Louise but I hope he doesn't think this is his feeding ground! Fav!
@pamknowler Hi Pam! Thanks for the note! In all these years, this is the first time he's sat awhile where we could see and photograph him! Ken read up about him again, and they said if he continues to return, to put the food away for three day! Our ducks are here at 7ish, and I should *hope* he wouldn't bother them! My computer is by the window, so I can keep an eye on the yard for any more mischief!
Wowzer!! He's a big boy!! He must have just taken a cow down for all the blood on him!! He really is beautiful and you caught all his awesome details and that very intense eye!! Superb capture and FAV!
A fabulous bird and capture. We have a sparrow hawk who comes to our garden at this time of year and poses in much the same way, I am always thrilled to see him but wish he would go hunting somewhere else!
Reminded me straight away of John Denver's lyrics 'I am the Hawk and there's blood on my feathers...' What a wonderful creature to add to your wildlife collection!! Thanks for recent comments on my return. :-)
Louise this is an amazing shot. So clear and sharp, with great detail in those feathers. That eye...oh my! Such a great pov. He does look very powerful and how nice that he posed for you for such fabulous shot! fav
