We've Imported Two Little Firecrackers to help us Celebrate!
July up here always gets off to a busy start for us! Wishing our American friends a terrific holiday! Local friends invited us to go out on their boat today, so I asked if we might continue on with an All-American picnic dinner and Ken and I would prepare it all! They, and our friend Enid, from Australia, love America, so this is our menu to show them how we might typically celebrate:
Grilled Hamburgers & Hot Dogs (of course!)
Potato chips
Deviled eggs
Watermelon
A red/white/blueberry layered gelatin salad
Dilled fingerling potatoes & bean salad with feta cheese
...and for dessert...
Ice cream and cupcakes with 7-min frosting
and Ashley made rice crispy treats that look like watermelon wedges!
Wash it down with a cold beer and float in the pool for the rest of the afternoon! We'll hardly notice we're not in America!

That layered Jello recipe is both festive AND delicious. If you're interested, this is the recipe my mother-in-law used to use and the one I made in years past for the kids (and kid in all of us!) http://www.momswhothink.com/salad-recipes/jello-salad-recipe.html
Louise, what a great photo. Looks like you imported the Chicago gang to help you celebrate. Thought about all my Canadian family and friends -- some of them "imported" for the summer on Canada Day. Sounds like you're going to have a great day today. Ours is kinda quiet. The rest of the family is in Mammoth for the long weekend. We're going to the 4th's annual outdoor ice cream social at church this evening. We can see the town's fireworks from their yard and parking lot from there. Taking the dogs. Bradley doesn't worry about the noise; we don't know about Bailey yet. Guess we'll find out tonight.
My how thise firecrackers have grown! Your menu sounds divine, the recipe is inspiring and the photograph is a fav for sure. All in all, a great holiday celebration! BTW, I've been meaning to tell you that my friend Bob is missed you last summer will not be visiting Lunenburg this year. His wife has some nerve problems in her arm and has to undergo a long regimen of P.T. I was really hoping you could get together this summer, but maybe next year...
@allie912 So sorry to hear Bob's wife is suffering...PT is a time sucker for the likes of me who would rather be doing something with photography instead...bit I've paid my dues! It *does* help, however, and I wish her well! God willing, we're be here for more summers to come, so PLEASE do have Bob contact us! I'm wondering, too, why you haven't come up this way with John... It's not all that far... The invitation's out there, you know...
Your menu sounds deliciously perfect, and your day sounds fabulous! Glad to see you all looking so happy in your red, white, and blue outfits! Thank you for providing the link to the Jello recipe...yum!
@frappa77 Don't tease... You KNOW you'd be welcome! And to sweeten the deal, I have neighbours & friends here who speak Italian beautifully so you'd feel quite at home while visiting us!
@Weezilou
I'm sure I would feel at home: you are so kind, sunny and full of life! And you have very special family and friends! I'll let you know when we'll come... a trip in USA is in our projects! :)
