She Sells Sea Shells ... by Weezilou

She Sells Sea Shells ...

Oh, I can think of so many song titles, none of which is totally applicable here... Old Folks at Home...the South...Home Sweet Home...Kentucky...By the Sea...Roaring 20s... In short, I wanted a way to use my assortment of sea shells, and it got me to thinking about our return soon to the Nova Scotia south shore...

I'll go with the date that I took the photo of the shells, though I used a crazy quilt piece in the far background, today. And there's the Lunenburg photo from who-knows-when...

Mixed media and collage...my favorite artistic application! A good reason to "haul out all the stuff"!
what a beautiful collage

I used to love that little rhyme "she sells sea shells" and us,all trying to say it properly! Love the old music scores and the great textures you have used to age them. When are you off to Lunenburg? How long have you had two homes and been lucky enough to split your time in each the way you do? The best of both worlds! Fav for your great image - I can't get the rhyme out of my head now! Lol!

@annied Thanks, Annie... Been playing with this one over several days!

@pamknowler Thanks to you, too, m'friend! I started out looking for "By the Sea, By the Sea", and I can't get THAT one out of my head! After we leave Chicago, we're stopping in North Carolina to visit friends, and then up to Lunenburg by the 15th. We bought the house there in August of 2001, and we were exclaiming yesterday that we can't believe how long we've already been going up for the summers! I always hate to leave there, as the lifestyle is far more tranquil. That said, I'm busiest when we're there, but I had a good run of it back here this winter! Still, I'm already looking forward to packing my bags and getting on my way! I heard there's a party about to happen in Chicago!

Don't care what you call it, I love this shot. The vintage papers and music plus the shells make for a most attractive composition.

@cruiser Thanks, Chris! I'd photographed some of my sea shells on that date, and was trying to decide how to feature them... I started layering and this is what I came up with! The shells, the Lunenburg photo (greatly altered) and the background, hardly visible, are my photos, she song sheets from the web. I have lots here at home to use, but I was trying to build a theme! I'm thinking of getting a print as I need a piece for the gallery in Lunenburg at the end of the month. Thinking "slightly recessed frame" and setting some shells at the bottom right... Ken thinks that will look like a "decorator piece" rather than a gallery piece, but it's difficult to come up with something at this distance! Easier once I return!
