The jays have watched me all summer feeding the cats that come and go, and often they're at the cat-kibble food having a snack. But in the early morning & late afternoon, they sit as this jay is and start "screaming"! It's become completely clear that they want me to fill the feeder (and don't forget the overload of peanuts)! As I do that, (I'm not kidding...) they swoop in just past my head to start eating! I pick up the camera and hope they'll give me some nice poses. (We didn't carve the pumpkins, so, American -style, they may put in an appearance until Thanksgiving)! For today, I thought a last bit of fall colour would make a nice backdrop.
How wonderful, and you captured a beautiful pose from this blue jay!
Ours are still feeding from the acorns and magnolia seeds in our yard, but I am confident that they will start coming to the feeders once our weather turns cold.
How I love these greedy bluejays! What fun they are to watch gulping down the peanuts. I wonder what the maximum number of nuts is that a jay can get into his beak and crop. Lovely capture Louise of this bird peeping round with that beautiful colour as a backdrop! Fav!
@danette Thanks, Danette! As I was holding the camera and waiting for a properly perched bird, I was thinking how happy it made me to be saving that background to remember when I'm back in California! It won't look like that there!
