12 grams of Pure Energy!

I'm still marveling at the infamitesanal weight of a hummingbird (3 gm each), and set out to get some images of them in better light. Unlike yesterday, them came around constantly! I know for sure that the one on the upper rt is a male. Those neck feathers grab the light and are brilliant red! When they don't catch the light, I don't know if I'm seeing a male or female. At times the two came around together. ... And late in the afternoon, when I saw one at the feeder, I stepped out with the camera. (Probably) she ate and flew to her favorite spot in the tree. She stays so long, I get tired of taking pictures, many of them alike! But quickly she flew to the tree with blossoms...and I missed the image I wanted...as she came right toward me and flew a circle around my head before going back to eat again!

If you've enjoyed hummingbirds, you know they're fearless, and recalling other times of interaction, I think they're being playful! Since they so typically buzz us when we come out, I know they must watch for us. Not sure what they want, but I love their company!

Funny little aliens!
great collage Louise. Is that the tongue visible on the top left shot?

@ltodd it is! Ron @straight_shooter didn't realize they had them, so I wanted to show him what they keep tucked in there! Thanks, Lyn!

@Weezilou oh what a wonderful capture!

@ltodd Thanks, but they're here so much of the time, I can "study them" frequently. They are a delight to have around! Again, I appreciate you having this exchange with me!

@ltodd PS...Don't know where the nest is going to be this year, but I'm watching!

@Weezilou I have always wanted to try & photograph hummingbirds - we have similar birds here (honeyeaters & sunbirds) but unfortunately no hummingbirds.

@ltodd We're fortunate here on 365 to be able to share what lives around us with others in the world! We think anyone living with the exotic animals you have in Oz to be incredibly fortunate! No honeyeaters or sunbirds here! (Are you back from Africa?)

Very nice collage

@Weezilou yes - I am still trying to settle back to hum-drum life once ! 6,000 images to get them ready for the charity to use on their website and for marketing. I know what you mean about everywhere else seeming more exotic than where we live ourselves!
