I still love to buy cooking magazines so I can look for inspiration in the photos. This magazine is filled with all sorts of one-layer cakes...what could be easier?! A Carrot Coffee Cake made the cut for my first attempt, and now the hardest part is going to be hiding it from myself (and Ken!) until time for brunch with a friend on Easter!
I have the computer program - Cook'n./ I can use it to search the web for recipes and then it "captures the recipe putting it neatly into recipe form. Allows me to adjust servings, etc and I can share directly to FB - I like to do that so I can us the phone to see the recipe when I am cooking in the kitchen and don't have to print the recipe out.
Carrot cake is Jerry's favorite cake, this looks so good. One layer cakes-perfect! I'm the world's worst multi layer cake baker. I can never get them to stay straight, the top layer(s) always slide to one side. So I take the easy way out and make a 13x9. That's really too much for just the two of us, a single 8" or 9" round layer is perfect. Yum!
@gardenfolk LOL! Well aren't YOU full of good ideas! I actually did buy the ingredients for the nest one I'll make...a Buttermilk-Raspberry coffee cake. Can't wait to try that one, but went with "Carrots" for obvious Easter reasons! Also, the magazine is going with me to NS...I may try every recipe before the summer's over!
@Weezilou sounds like you picked up a winner of a cooking magazine! Carrot Cake is my husband's favorite cake! But, he will eat any type of cake! :) "A house is not a home without CAKE!"
@gardenfolk You NEED this magazine! It's called "BAKE from scratch" and this issue currently on the stands is called one-layer cakes. I've been buying these on the magazine stand at either Cost-co or SAMs...big discount over the grocery. I can't subscribe to magazines because we forward our mail to our daughter when we're away and, too late, I discovered they don't forward the magazines : ( I'll copy and send you the carrot cake recipe. It also has crushed pineapple, pecans and flaked coconut in it with a streusel topping on it. Let me know if you can find the magazine...this one only recently came out.
@loey5150 LOIS!!! How good to see you!!! Today is like old home week! I got a comment from Slava Bowman who said she needed to reactivate her account so it wouldn't be cancelled! You, too? Maybe Lynda tells you we still exchange comments sometimes, and I feel it's a way to stay in touch with you and Bernie also. I hope all is well with the two of you; I think of you often! We leave for NS the last week in May, but seeing daughter Heather's family beforehand. We still love going up there! And your travels? Where to next? I'm so glad you're staying in touch! ♥
@loey5150 It would be lovely! In June a 365 member is coming from England (we've met twice before) and a local member who became a friend over the last couple years is coming in July! It's so great to be joined by fellow photogs as we like to do the same thing! We'd love to see you two up there one day...at present we have no reason to stop going up annually!
@casablanca sorry for the confusion! There's no coffee in it... Coffee Cake is served with morning coffee... Or in your case, with afternoon tea. It usually refers to a simple cake with a struesel topping.
@gardenfolk This is an antique I found many years ago in eBay's early days... back when it was fun! Of course I'm enjoying 365 every bit as much and it's much less expensive an addiction!
@Weezilou LOL! You sound just like me! 365 is keeping me off eBay as well. :) Thank you for the carrot cake recipe and I will look for the magazine at Costco!!!
Louise, You must not have chatted with Slava for a long time. She is no longer married to Jeremy and does not live in Washington any longer. She is a good friend of mine.
