Ken spotted him first...and so sadly, limping and holding up his right foot. Most help I can offer is a hearty meal. Raccoons in California look so different from the ones that visit in Lunenburg. Might be that they don't need the heavy winter coats! I do love their masked faces!
I don't know if you can see it, but back in the box is one of our backyard cats we look after; she hasn't let us touch her in 15 years! It's an ever-changing and always interesting yard we live in!
(Nothing to put a catch-light in his eyes.... Looks a bit like the Stepford Wives...)
@danette Animals usually have a way...I just hate to see anything suffering! They pick up food with both paws, too, so that was especially sad for me to watch... Doing what I can....
He looks so thin, but like you said, they don't need the heavy winter coats. Maybe he will heal fast with the food from his kind-hearted friend Louise!
@lynnz@joansmor@elkereturns@louannwarren@rosiekind@merrelyn@seattlite@pyrrhula I'm happy to report that, even though he had an injured foot, he was quite healthy looking. Even I can see that, compared to the "winter raccoons" in Nova Scotia, he looks thin without a lot of fur. I'm quite sure he'll continue to return and I'll try to get a better phoito. (He has a beautiful, bushy ringed tail!)
Oh, it is sad that he's injured but as you say, animals have a way of coping and he definitely found the perfect place to come for food and attention. Two nights in a row last week we had a fox eating birdseed out of one of our feeders that stands low on a stone wall. Couldn't believe our eyes. We watched from inside with the binoculars. :-)
Oh how different he looks to the Nova Scotia raccoons! So thin! I hope it is because he doesn’t need all that fur in the warmth of SC! I know he will now be ok as he has found you Louise! Hopefully his poor little paw will heal quickly - he needs his little hand doesn’t he! So pleased you caught him and hopefully he will be back for more photos! Fav!
Cute shot!
