To attain some variety, I asked Pam @pamknowler if she might have some old handwritten letters she'd copy and let me use for backgrounds. I used a snippet of one yesterday and a sentence from a letter today. To me, text within a picture signifies "thoughts" intertwined with the subject. Anymore, when I send a letter, it's unlikely to contain urgent information. It becomes something of a journal entry, sharing thoughts with the intended recipient, and here, too, the note about gardening because 'summer is returning' seemed fitting to texture the negative space.
It seems we only just left the family and grandkids, but they arrive again tomorrow to stay through Mother's Day. There's been a lot to do to clean and get ready for them, so a few minutes to build a collage and write some text is a nice respite : )

@gardenfolk haha, Cathee! "Color Me Scattered", too! I had to think about what you were talking about, but *now* I recall! I thought I'd be relaxing in California this winter, but it wasn't to be! I'm on overload as I KNOW you are, too!
How absolutely gorgeous, Louise! This is even better than yesterday's one! I love it and to think it's someone's loved one's writing is even better. I wish I had letters from my mum to use in the same way, although I do have some of her hand written recipes. Perhaps I cold use them? I must have a look at them when next back in Scotland! xx
@jamibann Oh, Issi, you really should try to incorporate them! If I may suggest (from approaches I learned in art classes) is to 1> choose a suitable subject that fits the words (though I always try to keep them a little vague) 2> is to keep the writing barely visible by piling on the textures, and burying some of the words behind things....maybe only use 2 or three of the words! 3> it's not difficult to select words and form new sentences!
Pam Knowler emailed me several pieces from different family members. Please let me know when you make a composite; I'd love to see what you do! And it sounds like you're like me....when I'm in L'burg and think of things I have stashed away here, I can't wait to get to them! Now I'm having to "think fast" what I really want to take back with me to work on over the summer!
@frappa77 You're so sweet! I love the process of writing a letter, but, while I think my writing is "tidy", I don't find it all that interesting as a background. I recently tried writing out something in script, but it didn't feel right to me... Handwriting with a fountain pen is really wonderful if you can find it! Happy Mother's Day to you as well, Francesca! It'll be fun to have some grandsons in the mix for the next few days! ♥ to you as well!
@Weezilou I will let you know Louise, especially as I have never tried this type of thing ... but I do feel a project coming on. I'm concerned about going back to live in Scotland, as I feel I'm going to be a bit lost, having had such an exciting 28 years of almost permanent travel and living in foreign climes ... so a new photographic project is one of my plans. Your work has certainly inspired me! But, don't hold your breath - it may be a winter project, but I will get round to it! :-)
Oh how lovely to see your finished work Louise. This is my cousin Bob’s writing in a letter to my sister and so lovely to see how you have used it. I definitely need some lessons in how to create such a beautiful image! As a bonus when looking for old hand written letters Barbara and I have really enjoyed re-reading these lovely letters from the past. I found all the letters my mum wrote to my dad when he was in hospital for 6 months when I was 1 1/2 years old. Quite moving and also very funny. I also found some lovely notes my mum had written to me which I had forgotten I had. A letter from my brother - the first and last he ever wrote to me brought back all sorts of emotions! So thank you for asking me to search out the letters as I have really enjoyed my trip down memory lane! A huge fav of course!
This is absolutely beautiful, a wonderful idea.
I'am 45 & I write to my step- Grandma all the time, this is what she looks forward to.
There's too much use of Technology these days.

Exquisite, dear! I knew it was yours before I saw your name. I’ve always noticed old postcard messages are usually health related. It’s so much nicer to read happy goings on!
What a brilliant image, so well thought out and processed. I can see this is going to end up being a 365 challenge, so many people are going to copy your creativity. I have all the letters written from my father to my mother during WWII which, until now, I have felt unable to read but I think this would be a great way to commemorate the pair of them. Thanks for the idea.
@pamknowler I can't say "Thank You" enough for helping to make this turn out as it did! All the better that you and Barbara have been having some fun going through your old letters! It's so easy to get caught up in it all! Perhaps you'll give this a try sometime with all you have to choose from!
@ethelperry Oh, your comment made me smile, Ethel! I see no point in wasting days at this stage in life! ; )
@sangwann So nice to see you here on my site, Dione! Thanks!
@casablanca Such a delight to come across another who enjoys the art of letter-writing still! Writing here to you and the others, I may be inspired to refurbish an old fountain pen!
@cruiser I'll be thinking of my Australian friends on Mother's Day as well, then! And like you, there's nothing sweeter then that handwritten letter in the mailbox! They're such a rarity these days!
@skippysue I'm SO with you about writing and the overuse of technology! I, of course, love the latter, but I think we shouldn't forget that special attention we give when we write a letter. Your step-grandmother is a most fortunate lady to have you in her life!
@louannwarren Well, WE know the joy of letter writing! Thank you for liking my day's offering here...I don't believe I'd use a letter about poor health...need more uplifting text!
@stownsend You're so right that I need some break time...we know that adage about all work and no play... I couldn't stand becoming "dull"!!
@judithdeacon Wow, Judith, that's the loveliest compliment! Thank You! OK...You've got my mind whirling with some fun possibilities! I like the way many in this immediate circle seem to be thinking of giving this a try... I'll be sleeping on this one tonight...I love this sort of thing!
@dmdfday I think you for the compliment but have to laugh when you say "Hallmark"! They're become so expensive, and even more-so in Canada, so I love making my own cards for a fraction of the cost and taking pleasure in sending them to friends!
@golftragic That's so very nice from you, Marnie, knowing your more attracted to architectural lines and industrial shapes! Nice that we can share different ways of seeing the world!
@digitalrn Thank you so much, Rick! I always have something on my mind that I want to create...too seldom I see it through. You know I enjoy it when I can get to it!
