Because we have been entertaining these friends visiting from Peru, I've had no time to post photos. D'angelo is an opera singer whom we met while he was taking Master Classes in Lunenburg. It is their daughter's summer vacation so they were visiting LA. Before this, I didn't know his wife was also a singer of some note, being a soprano. We took them to the concert hall in Orange County and hope someday we might be in an audience to hear them sing there!
Their vacation here was a marvelous sightseeing opportunity for us as well as typically we do very little.
@stray_shooter@louannwarren We managed to pack in a lot! Beverly Hills and the whole "Hollywood Blvd/Rodeo Dr scene", a brunch, a lot of shopping at Target/Marshals/Victoria's Secret & Window shopping at Givenchy. (She asked...one lovely dress was $14,000... Nice work if you can get it!) We did a day trip to the San Diego Zoo and 2 days in Big Bear (a mt ski village where we had snow!) It was a sensational holiday for us as well as it's sightseeing we don't do often!
@stray_shooter OMG...Your brilliant mind is always leagues ahead of me! I perhaps should have divided that sentence a bit, but it did make Marshalls sound more interesting! As for the high end stores, have you visited So Coast Plaza lately? Yikes! Never Never Land! I hadn't dropped in in a number of years! I'd like to know who's shopping those stores!!!
@Weezilou Big Bear! I wondered where you were in those glorious snow photos on Facebook. It looked fabulous. It’s always so fun to take visitors on tours of our area, we do things we would ordinarily not do. We have shopping centers here for the rich and famous too, for the ladies who only wear a dress/outfit one time. I’m always quite amazed at their prices. @stray_shooter We have a WalMart in a ritzy Dallas suburb that has a jewelry store in it. They have a lovely $16,000 strand of pearls if you’re interested!
@Weezilou Yes, I have the same opinion of South Coast. Never could figure out who actually bought things there. I hear it's actually the number 3 tourist attraction in the O.C. @louannwarren Fascinating. Only a Dallas Walmart would house a fancy jewelry store. I'm having a hard time imagining "the people of Walmart" browsing over the diamonds and pearls while in their shopping carts sit five six packs of Old Milwaukee and a 5 pound bag of Cheeto's. (Am I generalizing?)
@stray_shooter I can absolutely believe it's a tourist destination! The day we were there it seemed to be 70% Japanese & Asian and not the local variety. I had my camera also...a tourist in my own town! Quite an eyeful! @louannwarren Who'd have thought it?! But more and more I think people are not craving high end, so what better place to display a little temptation to go along with a less-expensive frock...and a case of Old Milwaukee and Cheeto's! And Ron, not actually generalizing...have you looked at the items in some of the carts? Yikes! Coronary!
@Weezilou If I’m lyin’ I’m dyin’!. Plano fought hard to keep Wally World out, so when they finally came to terms with the city’s residents, the store did not look like Wal Mart and had the crazy jewelry store, to boot. For a year or so it led the pack on $ spent by customers. Then everything settled down and they started building the nicer stores in all the suburbs. Plano is the only one with the jewelry store though. Ha!
