I've begun to be drawn back to the arts outside of (but still including) photography, so when I showed Pam what I'd been doing, she wanted some lessons. We'd begun yesterday with a few supplies, so with Pam's sister, Barbara, we went to an art and crafts store this morning, and while they had coffee, I filled their shopping basket with some necessities for printing! While the process, alone, is great fun, I like to show people the things they can make with their paper. Using our prints, I made them an accordion-fold book with covers. They only had wide ribbon, so I used it to teach them the technique, and ended up loving the nonsensical splash of over-sized colour and movement it provided! Pam wanted to add a photo to one of the sheets, so when I saw her raccoon photo, I suggested cutting it out, coupled with a black piece of paper to create a shadow. We placed it off-center and she loves it! In order to give them time to learn, I had to relinquish time at the Gelli plate, but when they took a break, I did three pieces, one this leaf pattern. With a slight push, it took on a 3-D effect. I have little doubt they'll continue to do these projects on winter days, and I tried to leave them with many more ideas for ways to combine this with photography on the computer. The possibilities are endless!
Tomorrow is our last day here and I'll hate to leave. The visits with so many friends I've met through 365 have been a spectacular delight, travels through the English countryside, the foods, and marvelous companionship... I certainly hope we can return again one day! Pam and her sister have made us fully at home!
@pyrrhula Thank you Ferry, for your kind appreciation, one artist to another! While tomorrow is our last day here, he're not yet heading back home... More surprises to unfold! I am rather enjoying being a vagabond!!!
You are such a clever creative gal! These are lovely and I am sure the ladies will continue to have fun experimenting.
I am thinking Dr Seuss: "Don't cry that it's over, be glad that it happened." I am delighted to have finally met you and hope we can do it again sometime, but I shall always treasure that sunny day at Chatsworth either way with a smile. Safe travels, dear ones!
Seeing this and reading your comments has made me remember what fun we had in the craft shop! I never knew there were so many different things you could do. I had to stop myself from buying lots of different craft items and stick for the moment to this fabulous new craft you are teaching me! I have had a go at making my own book but hit some problems but I know if I start again the next set of prints will be even better! Watch this space! Thank you so much for sharing this with Barbara and me - we were both blown away by your creativity and talent!
@pamknowler Perhaps you two will want to come sign up for next summer's course in "Adult Kindergarten"?! The class is filling fast! Thanks for the kudos...I've spent my life "dabbling", so I've accumulated a lot of minor abilities! As for the book, try starting with a cover board a bit smaller than your 6x6 print...or enlarge on the print by continuing to work outside the original space!
Have a nice and save trip back.
