Returning to 365, I'm taking more photos with a purpose again. This, at the end of the day speaks to what moves me, speaks to my soul and makes me happy. Years ago in art school, one of my teachers wanted me to be "edgier", make bigger statements, but it never became my authentic voice. Throwing the ultimate insult at me, he told me I'd never be more than "A Sunday Painter"... Turned out, I never even enjoyed painting, and from an early age, it was photography that was my medium. I couldn't be edgy artistically if I tried. I switched to fashion design (which is sculpture with fabric), and worked briefly in that business before moving to California.
I love living a life that allows me to see through a soft lens and journal what I love in photographs. In six months, I can look at this and remember a day when the wind passed by and wafted the fragrance of sweet peas and roses in the air.
@koalagardens What a welcome! I'm about to call it a day, and perhaps on that lovely note from you, I'll get some rest with a smile on my face! Thank you for that lovely Gift!
Maybe your teacher was right in a way. You didn't ever become an 'edgy artist' but maybe where he failed was to see the kind of artist you would become, and to encourage you on that road.
@pyrrhula How marvelous that you had the opportunity to meet! She was an original to this community and never took a break from it! When we each began, did we ever anticipate that our friends would grow to be more personal and meaningful?! We'll both remember Bruni fondly...
This is so lovely. Sweet peas always remind me of my grandmother.
I think being true to yourself is the sign of a real artist. Keep doing what makes you happy.
Of your teacher! Good for you for understanding your calling.
( Bruni was very special to the both of us . We have met each other and I`ve show her Middelburg. )
