I was about to turn off the outdoor lights and head to bed when I encountered this lovely surprise! I haven't seen Marshmallow in so long, I can't say if it's him, He must not have had a good place to get out of the rain, but at least he found a light supper left by the cats. He didn't linger, but I got my photo, albeit pretty ho hum on the quality scale. Oh the delight in seeing one here again however! THAT was just excellent!
So lovely to see this beauty!! He looks very wet and bedraggled. I bet he was pleased to find the cat's food!! I am so thrilled for you that you have had this gorgeous visitor. I love racoons!! LOL!!
@pamknowler anything you'd like to tell Lorrie here Pam? She thinks they're timid period. @laurieewilson Lori you should see are tame raccoons up in Canada. Pam got such a kick out of sitting and photographing them up close on our porch!
@laurieewilson@Weezilou oh I loved getting up close and personal with Louise's raccoons! We would hear them on her baby monitor and quietly open the door and watch them eating and they even took marshmallows from Louise! I got some wonderful photos! I love raccoons!
@Weezilou@pamknowler Too awesome! I think many people do not appreciate raccoons, and are mean to them. We also appreciate skunks, and pretty much every year have babies out back. Baby raccoops are adorable as well....fluff balls. :-)
@laurieewilson (First, sorry for the name misspellings... I've had my first tablet for 3 days and was trying to talk into it. I have no idea how to correct those things!) To you and Pam @pamknowler one summer we looked out and there were two large parents and no less than SIX babies!!! They were hysterical, body-slamming one another to get to the food and water bowls! Many of my neighbours think I'm nuts to encourage them, but it's obvious why they dig in gardens...they're HUNGRY! Feed them (cat food!), they're happy, I love the entertainment, and they've only once in YEARS dug up a freshly planted iris! The lure of sort soil was probably too much to resist! Otherwise, I've never has a mess in my yard caused by them!
@pamknowler He WAS quite wet and brdraggled! When I could only se the back of him (and not the tail) eating food out of the shelter I set out, I thought it was a neighbour cat...until he looked up! Initially I startled him, but I was so delighted!
@gilbertwood Thanks for understanding! I was pretty happy, all in all!
@aglennc Never EVER saw them squabble! Even in this photo, two cats were curled up in their bed under the chair on the left where I'd tried to make them a shelter to keep dry. They seemed to be taking no notice of one another! (When the rains are gone, I can disassemble my tent city for the cats!)
Oh wow, looks a little like a drowned rat poor soul. Must be great to get some rain though. I do hope you're not anywhere near the Oroville Dam we keep hearing about on our news.
@golftragic It's been excellent to get the rain, but everyone is a bit nerve wracked by the Oroville situation. While we are not close, who doesn't share concern for every homeowner who lives in that flood plain! A bad outcome is unthinkable, so we all pray we get through the rainy season, and the engineers can get to sorting out the concerns to make it worry free up there!
