Thanks to everyone for their amazing response to yesterday's meteor photo, and for getting it into PP! I don't usually reply individually unless people have questions, but all your comments and faves are fantastic -- thank you!
This is another shot from that night -- not as impressive a photo overall, but I thought some people might like to see it. This structure was part of the ferry terminal at Porteau Cove Provincial Park, and looked like it could make an interesting foreground, so I pointed my lens directly up and took a shot. To me, the result looks as though it might have been taken from the bridge of a spacecraft travelling between galaxies! (Or maybe I've been reading too much sci-fi!)
The bright star almost directly above the spire is Deneb, part of the constellation Cygnus and the 19th brightest star in the sky. The bright star about a third of the way down and a third of the way from the right is Vega, part of the constellation Lyra and the 5th brightest star in the sky. The slightly 'smudged' point (only identifiable when viewed large) at the far left, a third of the way down is the Andromeda Galaxy, estimated to contain one trillion stars.
Techie details are pretty much the same as the star portion of yesterday's photo -- taken with the Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm, f/4.0, ISO 3200 for 60 seconds. Again, there is some movement visible from the Earth's rotation (and huge amounts of noise), but this is the limit of what my camera and lens are able to produce.

Your photos are incredible - really, absolutely gorgeous. Your technical descriptions are also really appreciated. I've been wanting to try some nighttime sky photography for awhile. I live in an area with very little light pollution, so I see an amazing star-filled sky every night. Your description made me realize I might need to buy a nicer camera first :-) Congrats on your PP - I look forward to many more beautiful pictures!
