Another photographically mediocre shot I'm afraid, but very definitely the highlight of my day -- my first ever Bald Eagle sighting!
Despite rumours of a nest in Vanier Park in downtown Vancouver, I've failed to spot it when I've visited. Today, however, I had to go across the border into Washington to pick up a parcel, and as the weather was at least dry, I decided to explore a little of the coast around Birch Bay and Blaine.
I was on the lookout for interesting landscape shots (of which there were few with the lighting conditions available), but as I drove along with the roof down past a large tree in Birch Bay, I heard loud bird calls, and stopped to investigate.
There were two nesting in the tree, and I was lucky enough to get a few shots of this one in flight. As I wanted to make sure I got the shot, I set the ISO at 800 to make sure I didn't get any blur. The resultant noisy and heavily cropped image from my 70-300mm lens is certainly not going to win me any wildlife photography awards, but I'm still extremely pleased!
