Finally Vancouver got a clear evening with minimal clouds on the western horizon, and I was able to get a shot of the PANSTARRS comet.
This was taken from John Lawson Park in West Vancouver. In the foreground can be seen the West Vancouver Community Arts Council, with a couple of apartment buildings behind it, and the low slopes of Cypress Mountain to the right.
The best viewing conditions for this comet were a couple of weeks ago, but it is still visible in the night sky to the west approximately an hour after sunset. I was not able to make it out with the naked eye, but a good pair of binoculars (or a camera) should pick it up.
Despite not being a big fan of HDR, this is another HDR shot, to control the much brighter foreground lights with the faint comet. Seven shots taken at 105mm, f/4, ISO 2500, and ranging from 1/15th to 4 seconds in duration. I also have some shots with my 300mm lens, but this photo has more context.

A gorgeous shot. We've had no luck spotting the comet, or anything really with all the cloud cover! My Dad just spent a week at the top of a mountain somewhere abroad hoping he could shoot Panstarrs, but no joy.
