i have similar problems using a lens wide open, i think we get attached to the dreamy shallow dof blur and i am learning sometimes the answer is to stop the lens down a few clicks!
Agree with kali. Looked at the photo info and saw that it was shot at f1.4. ,nothing wrong with that, just the the line of focus is very narrow.
So opening up to 2.8 or 4 you can still get a soft (bokeh). background.
