Flashback Friday#3 -Angel of the North

The Angel of the North is a contemporary sculpture, designed by Sir Antony Gormley, located near Gateshead in Tyne and Wear, England.

Completed in 1998, it is a steel sculpture of an angel, 20 metres (66 ft) tall, with wings measuring 54 metres (177 ft) across. The wings do not stand straight sideways, but are angled 3.5 degrees forward; Gormley did this to create "a sense of embrace".

It stands on a hill on the southern edge of Low Fell, overlooking the A1 and A167 roads into Tyneside, and the East Coast Main Line rail route, south of the site of Team Colliery.

Today is Good Friday when Christians worldwide remember the death of Jesus on the cross outside the city of Jerusalem.

My picture of the Angel of the North reminds me again of how Jesus stretched out his arms without a struggle as they were nailed to the cross to embrace us and say 'this is how much I love you'

Just as there are people looking on here at the outstretched arms of the Angel of the North, perhaps thinking what an amazing sight,so nearly 2000 years ago people did the same.

The question is what do you think of the outstretch arms of this Angel? More importantly what do you think of the outstretched arms of Jesus?

Great image - most appropriate as we celebrate Christ's resurrection this weekend

I think it is an appropriate image for Good Friday, and next week we go off to a funeral for one of Gods servants who stretched out his arms to all in his ministry and now has been enfolded in Jesus' arms himself.

@tramway Thank you very much. I trust that the funeral, although sad, that there will also be a sense of joy and celebration for your friend life and testimony.
