In the quiet rural town of Bruton, Somerset, within the stone and old brick buildings, along Quaperlake Street, tucked away between two buildings you will find a huge steel box, which initially seems completely at odds with its surroundings.
However, the next door stone buildings, called Viney's Yard, which have been converted into housing (along with some new development in the land behind), used to be a silk mill, then a bacon factory.
So this newish building in fact fits in as an ode to the areas industrial past.
@Cherrill On no...I think you are right, it is a little out of place. In a bit more of an urban or industrial area it would look perfect. Glad you liked the shot though!
@leggzy Thanks-yes it is an unusual house in that location and in the wider context of the street., but whether you like it or not it is very striking.
Well now, that is an arresting piece of architecture. I like how whoever designed it has gone totally against the traditional and constructed something very industrial looking. Great find, but it would have been hard to miss.
A few years ago I would have detested this, but now I agree it is quite aressting in a good way! I can only imagine what it must look like inside. They must have had some friends on the planning committee!
