'When you're not doing so well, vote for a better life for yourself. If you are doing quite nicely, vote for a better life for others.'

This printed version of the quote was found posted on a wall in Bath. It comes from the pen of (sometimes) controversial Scottish novelist, playwright and short story writer Irvine Welsh.
Welsh is recognised for his novel Trainspotting, which was later made into a film of the same name.
His work is characterized by a raw Scots dialect and brutal depiction of Edinburgh life. He has also written plays and screenplays, and directed several short films.
