25th April is ANZAC Day (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps). Australia pauses to remember those who have fought and died in conflicts at home and overseas.
The day starts for many with dawn services at memorials around the country. We were first aiding at our local service, as we do every year. Despite it being cold and pouring with rain, hundreds of people still turned out to remember. Here's the memorial and flag once everyone had left.
----
They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.
(Ode of Remembrance, from "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon)
i echo what beth wrote. i love seeing young people acknowledge what has been done by those who came before them and by those who made the sacrifice for them. kudos!
