I'll have to remember that myself!
I too think this is a button on denim.
And if so, the button is probably metal.
But in close-up it actually looks quite interesting...as if it might be wood.

At first glance (and before reading all the answers) I thought "flower frog"...with those spiky things...but on closer inspection, I see how it would be button. Gives me an idea for a future photo... see how that sort of thing happens around here?!
