This morning I read the fractured fairy tale, "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Book?" to kids in our Reading Enrichment program, "Hooked on Books". When I came to this page, I immediately thought "curves!"
Here's a brief description of this zany tale:
When Herb falls asleep with his head on top of a dusty book of fairy tales, he finds himself stuck inside the volume with no quick way out. Chased by a raging Goldilocks, who is upset that he landed in her story, the boy journeys through a parade of fairy tales and finally gets caught in the middle of "Cinderella." All of his past mishandling of the book comes back to haunt him-Cinderella's kitchen is sticky with cookie crumbs, the Queen does not appreciate the mustache Herb has drawn on her face, and Prince Charming has been missing since he was cut out of the book and used as a birthday-card decoration.
The kids are beginning a study of classic fairy tales so this was a fun introduction.
Wonderful picture and good idea for this theme! Thank you for sharing this with me. I teach a unit on fairy tales to my senior class, and even though they are seniors, I think this might be a good quick introduction to our more serious readings. So, thank you for helping to build my lesson plans! :)
Oh I think I need to own this book ... I was planning on doing a Fairy Tale unit with my 3rd graders this year! Thanks for sharing!
re: editing of "End of the Road" ... I actually used PhotoScape (free download). There is a button called "backlight" that I am playing around with. (It's the same effect I used for this shot of Rick: http://365project.org/ZG/365/2010-07-03.) For both og these shots I used the maximum amount - 200+.
Allison, thank you for your kind comments. I have always enjoyed writing, and for the past few years I have been trying to put my writing together with my photos. Just need more time to get it done. Life is too busy.
