The earthquake is behind us, except for an occasional aftershock. Now we turn our attention to Hurricane Irene. Here's the latest from The Weather Channel:
Irene will be a serious and multi-hazard threat for the major metropolitan areas of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. This includes Norfolk, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, Hartford, and Boston. This hurricane has the potential to produce flooding rains, high winds, downed trees (on houses, cars, power lines) and widespread power outages. Significant impacts along the immediate coast include high waves, surge and beach erosion.
Every time Man begins to think he's in control, Mother Nature re-asserts her dominion.
Seems to be the topic of the day. But I'm glad that so many people are trying to be prepared and taking safety precautions this time. We will get some rain and high winds, but I'm praying for many friends and family who will be in the line of fire.
They are for the areas closer to beach. She said the name of them, but I don't remember it. She doesn't live that close and actually in an area that has higher ground. She's going to stay...but I hope she doesn't regret it because it will be impossible to leave later with the traffic at the bridge.
