There was still no power at school so I was home for another day. My condo neighborhood is fortunate to never have lost electricity, but all around us can be heard the hum of generators from neighbors that are not so lucky. The fallen trees I photographed on Sunday are still lying across roof tops waiting for the big cranes that will be required to remove them. I did see a welcome sight on this block. I'm not sure what part of the repair process this was but I hope they were bringing normalcy to the area. Here is this afternoon's update for those lucky enough to have access to the internet:
Dominion Virginia Power says this afternoon that it has now restored service to more than 800,000 of its 1.2 million customers who lost electricity and that it considers itself on track to finish nearly all reconnections by Friday.
In the Richmond area, Dominion had about 224,000 without power this afternoon.
I would have thought our school would have been a priority but the problems must be more than can be taken care of in a timely manner...but as with you, I am so thankful to have my power (back) even though I lost mine for only 1 day.
Irene was one angry lady. Not only are you folks slowly picking up after her, but I just found out that Vermont is a mess as well! Thankfully my dad and sister are fine. But the clips on TV of massive mud slides and bridges washed out were quite shocking. So glad your power is on and things are beginning to be cleaned up.
