August 28th I began to document Hurricane Irene's arrival in Richmond. For the next week the effects of her visit dominated our thoughts and conversation. The week after we began to pick up the pieces of our lives and return to our usual routines. Last week our attention turned to school, to Parents Night and Convocation. Irene became an unpleasant, but somewhat distant memory. While walking this afternoon, I realized Irene is still making her presence felt. The sound of grinders and heavy motors broke the stillness of Sunday afternoon. Here is one crew collecting piles of yard debris that had been dumped at the edge of the road. I think it will be a long time before the effects of Hurricane Irene are really gone from the landscape.
Glad to see the clean-up efforts are progressing well--it will probably be a year or so before all is back to normal.....remembering when 3 hit us back in 2004 and all the yard trash and debris was lined up on the curbs for weeks. Bet you'll be glad when all is back to normal again. Enjoy seeing your photos of the progression.
Let's hope the authorities keep up the support.
