Lawn jockeys used to be common yard ornaments, often made of cast iron painted to look like a black jockey with one hand outstretched to take the reins of a horse. Replacing the reins would be a lantern to provide light on the path. These statues fell out of favor as they were identified as demeaning and a reminder of the era of slavery.
This lawn jockey has broken all stereotypes from the color of its skin to its gender and its luxurious blond hair. I'm especially taken with the fetching little cap tailored to match her jacket. I think the beads were added for Mardi Gras, but seem to have held up well.
She has a certain flair, don't you think?
