By now everyone has heard about the explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. I called my daughter who in the past has been at the finish to cheer for friends. She reassured me that she hadn't been there nor had any of her friends, but she made a heartfelt observation. Patriots' Day is a very festive day in the Boston area. The Red Sox play baseball in the morning ( Normally baseball games are never scheduled for the morning) and everyone has the day off. The simple pleasure of this Spring celebration has been taken away from the people of Boston. It will never be the same. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War.
We are still battling an enemy but not one who wears a uniform or is honorable enough to face us on the battle field.
My thoughts are with the people of Boston and the runners who came from far and wide to participate in this event.
Beautiful capture of the Dogwood blossom. It seems very fitting for those who are now mourning. It is a sad commentary on the way our nation is today- we are open to these attacks as you said from a very cowardly enemy. Moving picture.
