Young Architects

This class of 4th Graders has been studying the history of architecture as it relates to Thomas Jefferson. In a few weeks they will be heading to Monticello, Jefferson's home in Charlottesville, VA, so they can see Palladian windows, columns and domes for themselves. If you look closely at this individual pictures, you can see that, though the children are creating their own designs, project-based learning (PBL) like this takes a lot of teacher support. Here you see their classroom teacher, the grade level assistant and Susan, my colleague in the library, who shared some of what she learned about architectural design on a trip to Spain and Italy.
