Every August the merchants of my favorite shopping district, Carytown, sponsor a watermelon festival. Naturally the centerpiece of the event is freshly cut, fiery red and refreshingly chilled watermelon which is sold for charity at $1 a bowl. You can also find watermelon sorbet and cupcakes and other sweet treats, but the festivities have expanded over the years to include foods for every taste, music, public service booths, activities for kids, treats for dogs (and dogs themselves), and lots and lots of one-of-a-kind crafts, clothing and art. On a sunny hot Sunday, Carytown was the place to be, strolling, window shopping and enjoying some cool refreshing watermelon.
I love all of your shots. isn't summer a grand time. love these festivities. a neighboring town has a carrot festival each year with displays of carrots, carrot cakes, yummy, and all the rest. the street is cordoned off for all the different activities. looking forward to that.
I'd LOVE a festival like this...and would probably have come home with shoes, too! I tell Ken, in locations such as this, you've got to be ready to "see it...like it...buy it!" as you may never come across the likes of it again!
@Weezilou You are so right! John's philosophy (which I have taken as my own) is "You never know when you will pass this way again, so if you see it, get it."
Oh that John! What a guy!!! I've had to pound that mantra into Ken...who's just given up on me! (I never fail to point out things we have here that I bought in such a fashion...love them...and never saw their likes again! I make no apologies ;)
