Lovely Ladies by allie912

Lovely Ladies

I was able to capture three generations of this family when Leila's grandmother came to school to talk about writing biographies. How lucky the children were to have this opportunity. Dr. Farzaneh Milani teaches Persian literature and Women’s Studies at the University of Virginia. She is Chair of the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures. She is also a poet, award-winning translator, and a recipient of the Carnegie Fellowship and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Her 1992 book Veils and Words: the Emerging Voices of Iranian Women Writers is now in its sixteenth printing. Her latest book is Words, not Swords: Iranian Women Writers and the Freedom of Movement. She is not only brilliant, but a gentle and kind soul. Her daughter pictured here is a medical doctor and young Leila has inherited the grace and beauty of her mother and grandmother.
Beautiful portrait of three generations of beautiful women! Fav. Sounds like a remarkable family. My husband and son are University of Virginia grads (and I am, sort of, though my alma mater is now the University of Mary Washington) so we're always interested in people associated with UVA.
