Carmine Agra Deedy and Us

Thanks to fellow librarian Kate who was actually researching something else, we learned that this amazing children's author was to speak at the University of Richmond this afternoon, tickets and reservations not required.
Carmine Agra Deedy has been writing for children for over two decades. Born in Havana, Cuba, she came to the U.S. as a young child in 1964.
Not only is she a remarkable author, but she is also a fascinating storyteller. Her presentation today centered on how teachers and librarians changed the trajectory of her life. The audience of teachers, librarians and college students was spellbound. She graciously autographed several books from our library for us to share with our students.
What a great way to spend an afternoon!
Wonderful group shot! Your smiles tell the story. Great opportunity to meet the author.

I'm always so impressed with the opportunities that you afford the students, but here, a great opportunity for you as well, and it will reach the students through the books and how you came to get them autographed! Wonderful! (Love your outfit!)

@Weezilou Thanks for noticing my sweater, from my new favorite designer from Sweden, Gudrun Sjoden. All organic and unique and very funky. I have to discipline myself not to go overboard!

@allie912 Just through things you've posted over the years, I know you collect art (and have an eye for quality items!), shared a pair of cute new shoes with us once, and though you're not often in your photos, from the few things you've let us see, I know I'd admire your wardrobe! You're so kind to everyone around you, I'm glad you don't forget to treat yourself!
