A visit to the Virginia Museum of History and Culture (formerly known as the Virginia Historical Society) in honor of the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI. To commemorate the end of the War to End All Wars, there were re-enactors representing General Pershing and President Wilson. They really brought the time period to life. I think mine was the last generation that learned much about WWI in the classroom. Soon the drama of WWII replaced the study of the events and battles from the First Great War. Let's face it, there aren't enough weeks in a school year to do justice to two such tragedies.
Beautiful photos! It looks like a fascinating exhibit. My husband and I have been informally studying World War I, starting with a podcast recommended by our soldier and continuing with a class last fall and several movies. You are right--my kids did not study it much at all, which is why he was so interested in the podcasts. The accounts of trench warfare are horrific.
