As one of the valedictorians observed, this morning’s ceremony is called a “commencement” which means a beginning, but for the majority of the graduates, it is also the last step in a 13 year educational process that began in kindergarten in the Lower School.
For me as well it is the last year of a process which began when my daughter entered kindergarten in 1977. Once again I had a special corsage and, with the other retiring faculty, led the procession of teachers into the amphitheater. Fortunately, no one was interested in teachers today, it was all about the graduates, spreading their wings and preparing for amazing adventures.
There really is something special about graduation- all those hours of hard work and the resulting accomplishments. So, you are retiring? That will be a big change for you!
Graduations often bring up such a range of emotions. It must have been wonderful to watch these students grow and change for 13 years and finally graduate. And congratulations on your retirement!
These days are landmarks in life. You're going to miss lots of this as your photos are so joyful. But what a lovely record of days at school. Enjoy the next phase!
