While I’m hunting bargains at the supermarket, I indulged my taste for “real” bagels at Chewy’s in Carytown, less than a mile from home. Hand rolled, made fresh daily, you can see the difference between the Thomas’s mass produced sample on the left and Chewy’s on the right. Eaten fresh out of the bag, the Chewy’s sourdough plain bagel lives up to the store’s name, but lightly toasted, it becomes a whole different taste sensation. And all for $2.50.
