My friend and colleague Holly is an art teacher who works with kindergarten. I wandered in her studio yesterday while a class was creating these collages in the spirit of Henri Matisse. She calls them "Magic Matisse" because the cut outs adhere to the paper using paint, not glue. Each work was different and imaginative and oh so childlike. It was a real visual treat.
BTW You have already met Holly here: http://365project.org/allie912/365/2010-03-21
Having just seen the Matisse show at the Art Institute in Chicago, I think these are inspired by the same! Asctually, looking at many of the Matisse drawings, I woundered why I beat myself up so much when I draw...it was so simple, and yet, there they hang in the museum... Made me think about that... And why kids should be encouraged at an early age...
