While a traditional "Back to School Night" consists of parents visiting the classrooms of their kids and meeting the teachers, my school uses this evening to promote the library. We have about 600 new books and 15 magazine subscriptions which we display on the tops of the bookcases and offer for purchase. The books are then donated to the library, and the name of the child is inscribed on a book plate in the front of the book. He then becomes the first person to check the book out. We are always amazed and thrilled by the generosity of the parents. We don't sell every book available for purchase but there are very few left at the end of the night. (And every book whether donated or not is added to the library collection)

What a clever idea! Hope it's okay to share this idea...told my daughter about it - she's on the PTO board - it would be a great idea for next year! Love the shots!
