Lights, Camera, Action!

A crew has been on campus for a few days filming to create a promotional movie for the school. Today they wanted scenes of the kids using the computers in the library and came by with their elaborate equipment to film a 4th grade class. What they hadn't considered was the fact that it was the last day of school before Halloween, and almost everyone (even librarians!) was wearing holiday paraphernalia. They managed to find a few kids who looked "normal" and placed the others strategically so the Halloween mottos couldn't be seen.
All this marketing is probably something public school teachers never have to consider, but it is definitely part of the culture of the independent school.
Very cool shot

I like the black and white. I'm glad that they found some normal kids to use. Interesting timing on their part.

Nice shot, and the kids are truly interested in what is going on.

Good things happen in libraries!

Yes, those are normal kids alright. What a chance for them to learn about making a video

oops - how funny that it didn't occur to them that it was the Friday before Halloween. :) What in the world is that thing - looks like a bass clarinet on steroids!

Ooh, fascinating.

Great shot of how warm a day it was this late in October with the boys wearing shorts.

@annc You're right; it does document the unseasonal warmth of October in Richmond, but I gotta tell you, these boys will be wearing shorts on frigid days in January because A) It's cool and B) They honestly don't feel the cold the way we puny adults do.

@ellen The camera they used for this shot enabled them to do a long sweep from high to low. It was pretty cool to watch them in action. They had other cameras for different set-ups. They even used a remote controlled airborne camera for panning the campus. It looked like a mini traffic helicopter and they brought it in from Seattle for a day.

Your whole photo and commentary and remarks with your responses is just fascinating. Might be a good idea if the Public Schools had to advertise to get students -- some things might change.

@junebug I agree. We expect our students to be accountable for their actions. We should expect the same accountability of our schools.

What a fun and interesting experience for everyone!
