This afternoon we had our Annual Appreciation Party for all our volunteers. Not too many of our parent volunteers can fit the function into their busy schedule, but you can bet every student helper is there! They love getting out of class and having great party food. In addition our school head presents them each with a certificate honoring their service. It's a great party, and we are glad to be able to host all those wonderful volunteers. The library certainly couldn't run as smoothly as it does, without them.
We use a lot of volunteers where I work, and I must say, they are appreciated. their work is so important, and the residents love to have them on board too.
the table looked so yummy as I passed through the library this afternoon...and I did manage to snag one cookie on my way back through at the end of the day ... I know everyone appreciated the party!
A nice tribute to your volunteers Allison. When our daughters were at school I was always a volunteer (we call them 'parent teacher associations' in the UK). In the UK it tends to be helping with fund raising and organising school social events, rather than actually helping in the class room.
@phil_howcroft The number of volunteers for every school task has reduced in recent years as more women have returned to work. Fortunately Moms (and even an occasional Dad) love to work in the library because shelving books is quiet, finite, satisfying, not too challenging AND you don't take any part of it home with you. No calling people to ask for donations or writing reports. As a result we actually get help from parents who fit us into their work schedule.
