Appalachian Service Project

This morning between the 2 church services some of the teens who had just returned from a service trip to the far western part of the state shared their experiences. Most of these young people had been in my kindergarten Sunday School class at one time or another. They all wanted to emphasize that, although they made the trip with the intention of working and helping families less fortunate, they felt they had received as much from the experience as they had given. We are all so proud of their maturity and commitment.
:) Great capture

It is so true, each time I volunteer, I feel I receive more out of the experience than what I give. So great to see the teens feel that way so young! Great group shot & great cause!

A great capture of an amazing group of people :) Volunteering is amazing because the 'givers' get as much as the 'receivers' :)

What a wonderful experience for them! I think it's hugely important, especially for teens, to have the opportunity to help the less fortunate. My experiences with Habitat for Humanity when I was in high school have stayed with me and served as a reminder that there are no guarantees in life. I think it's important for everyone to have a humbling experience like that, and it's wonderful that this group got so much out of it.

What an enriching experience they must have had. Thankyou for the encouraging story that accompanies the photo.

Absolutely- you always get back so much more than you give. This is one of the reasons I like working with teens- they're so eager to impact the world for good. You never want them to lose that hope and feeling they can make a difference. With experiences like this, you know it stick with them throughout their lifetime. Hats of to them!
