Noun. The science or technique of dating events, environmental change, and archaeological artifacts by using the characteristic patterns of annual growth rings in trees.
If these trees could tell their stories, each ring would be a chapter in a tale cut short by the fury of Hurricane Irene..

I'd like to know what happened earlier in this tree's life that makes it appear that the original tree was consumed by a new one.

These trees and many others along the coast and even as far inland as Vermont would have a tale that ended in the same fashion. Love how you put the photo and commentary together on this one.

Fabulous! I still remember my grandpa showing me a stump in his yard and telling me about the tree and seasons that they had. I found this so interesting that I always look at these trees now. Such history.
