Rara Avis

I went walking this afternoon despite the chill and damp, hoping to take some pictures. I couldn't believe my good fortune in witnessing the landing of this hawk practically in front of me. He rested long enough for me to get a single picture and then took off. I was not quick enough to catch him in flight, but the image is still vivid in my mind's eye.

They are marvelous birds, and for some reason there seems to be an abundance of these birds around this year. Evenin town where we live, we have had a few. Made us a little worried about our Yorkies, but I think they will be ok.

wow!!! fantastic!!! I'm not usually so lucky....I was just *today!* remembering my first close-ish hawk encounter at one of my schools. Funny how often I think of my 365 past shots as I drive past the same spots.
