Columbus Day in The Fan by allie912

Columbus Day in The Fan

The birthday of Christopher Columbus, the explorer traditionally honored as the discoverer of America, is on October 12. In the 1960's the celebration of a number of national holidays was changed to Mondays so as to give the workforce three day week ends. How would you like your birthday moved from its real date to another day just to give your neighbors a long week end? I think it is lame, so I am posting my Monday flag picture on Wednesday, the actual date of what is thought to be Columbus's 560th birthday.
Wow! That's beautiful! Love all the flags!!

I really liked getting those odd days off when we celebrated Columbus' birthday on its real date! Love the feeling of Americana in this shot with all those flags flying from the front porches. Very nice shot and great commentary!
