Ha. Well, being from Indy, the second place finisher of the Indy 500 considers themselves the "first loser"...initially. Then, the team gets their paycheck, and the pain diminishes dramatically.
Perhaps 3rd place is a pretty good triumph! Who knows. Unless a patron walks in and says "ok, so what is the name and address of the 1st favorite". Only then do you know that your marketing plan sucks.
@cmt2812 In the old days of the Sovirt union there was a 2-car race between an American and a Russian car. The American car won. This is how Pravda reported the outcome of the race: "The Russian car came in second. The American car was next to last."
