Presidents Day is a Federal holiday in the U.S., commemorating the February birthdays of 2 presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Banks and post offices are closed as are most school systems. My school declared today a Professional Day which meant the students had the day off but the faculty came to school for meetings. As it turned out last night's snow would have closed the schools anyway, and we teachers didn't have to report til 10 am, which made it feel almost like a holiday.
One activity we participated in this afternoon was a continuation of different conversations begun during last month's Professional Day. The group I was drawn to was made up of teachers from all 3 school divisions who wanted to talk about the need for deliberate reflection built into the school day. Without going into particulars, it was a very satisfying meeting. Here you see a few of the group at the end of the day, continuing the conversation.
