I was walking through the library at the end of the day and realized I had never posted a picture of our student-created mural. Here is the description on the plaque to the right:
"Created in May 2000 by the Collegiate Lower School Students under the guidance of Angie Wiggins.
Pigmented cotton linter paper, watercolor, chalk pastel, canvas, glue.
This collaborative composition and art experience was made possible through a generous gift from the Jake MacNelly Fund."
Let me add a few words of further explanation. Angie Wiggins is a local artist who had a two-week residency in the Lower School. The design of the mural, an historic map of the United States, originated with the 2 creative art teachers of the Lower School. And I am proud to say the idea of displaying student-created art in the library was mine, and it was at my invitation that this project first began to take seed.
This mural is a true metaphor of the child-centered experience that is education at our school.
