The opening theme for this school year is "Engineer Your Imagination". Over the summer the faculty all read an inspiring book called, "Creating Innovators," and the artistic Mom who creates our library bulletin board designed this amazing Rube Goldberg machine. If you don't recognize that name, Goldberg was a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist best known for his “inventions”. Rube’s early years as an engineer inspired his most acclaimed work. A Rube Goldberg contraption – an elaborate set of arms, wheels, gears, handles, cups and rods, put in motion by balls, canary cages, pails, boots, bathtubs, paddles and live animals – takes a simple task and makes it extraordinarily complicated.
I think these 4th graders may be inspired to try some inventing of their own.
How wonderful to have one of the moms on board to create a board like this to inspire the young ones! Good for them to get a Rube Goldberg introduction early in life!
