In its Natural Setting

Science teacher/gardener Ellen stopped me bright and early this morning to tell me there were Monarch caterpillars in the garden I might want to see. She had tried to take a few pictures but the focus of her camera wasn't cooperating. We had to tiptoe through grass heavy with dew and then try to avoid staring into the early morning sun. I love the final result. I'm not sure if the holes on the leaf were the result of his snacking but i think they add a certain interest to the scene.
Looks like a monarch caterpillar to me. Is it on milkweed?

It's the very hungry caterpillar! All the monarch's colors are in the stripes.
