This is part of what you see in the first room of the Chihuly exhibit. And to better understand what you are seeing, here is some interesting commentary from the Chihuly website:
Chihuly first filled boats with glass in Nuutajärvi, Finland, during the Chihuly Over Venice project in 1995. After several days of glassblowing, Chihuly and the team made temporary installations along the Nuutajoki, the river nearby. He often tossed glass into the river, letting it float downstream. Local kids in small wooden rowboats gathered them, and it was probably then that Chihuly saw the opportunity for a new type of installation. When the team found a partially submerged wooden rowboat, which was hauled out and emptied of mud and debris, Chihuly filled it to overflowing with glass. He has continued to revisit the "Boat" idea ever since.
I bet that was quite an amazing exhibit. You have had some very interesting things in your area Allison. One of these days, Josie and I will head to the Richmond area for some sight seeing. You need to let me know when things of interest are coming to town. That would make a nice day trip.
i love the vibrant colours allison and the scene of a boat filled with glass tends to follow on from my initial thoughts of your other picture....underwater ocean scene :) :)
Have a great week ahead
