We had the chance to attend Evensong service at Christ Church Cathedral at 6 PM. Here you see the gentleman who was the keeper of the gate. He was happy to pose for me. The service was glorious, with music from the men and boys' choir, readings and prayers, but no sermon. We had 2 speakers in the afternoon, including the former poet laureate Sir Andrew Mention, and another speaker after dinner talking about how poetry influenced anti-slavery sentiment in England and the U.S. Fascinating subjects and amazing speakers. We also had an Egyptologist with a clever slide and video show comparing his work to that of Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Did you know that just last month archeologists uncovered the oldest bit of papyrus yet found, from the time of King Cheops and the Great Pyramids?
